I'm way behind on this! Since we only have one computer for the time being and it's been acting up, computer time in this house is a premium...so blogging has been low on the list! I wanted to write an update about Callie's check up.
We ended up taking Callie to the doctor right around her 9 month birthday because of an ear infection. At that point she only weighed 13 lbs. 10 oz. That was only 6 ounces in 2 months. So, the doctor decided that we needed to do blood work to rule out any issues that she might be having internally. By the time her 9 month check up rolled around, she was actually closer to 10 months. At this appointment she was up to 14 lbs. 1 oz. The blood work was all normal except we discovered that she was slightly anemic. We started her on a new liquid multi-vitamin with added iron to solve that issue. The weight gain, we attributed to starting her on PediaSure twice a day. She loves it and it helps her get some extra calories. She's still eating like a champ and has yet to turn a single bite of anything away! She LOVES feeding herself and we've been trying new things all the time. She's also drinking out of a sippy cup now and we try not to give her bottles unless she's super tired. We call the PediaSure "baby crack" because she sees it and goes nuts...then screams when it's gone :) We had to take her back last week for another (double this time) ear infection. Cameron had been diagnosed with one just a few days earlier, so both kids were on antibiotics at the same time. The doctors also have Cameron on experimental treatments for asthma. The meds seem to be helping with his symptoms, so we're pretty sure he has it. If so, it's a very mild case, so that is a plus...
Some new things that Callie is doing:
- When you say "Oh, no!" She'll put her hands on the sides of her head....her aunt Shelby taught her that one!
- She can say a few words now (besides ma-ma, da-da, and bye-bye) She says "book" and "baby" a lot. Her favorite toys include her books (which she loves to just sit and flip through for hours on end) Her crinkly money from her play purse, her bath tub butterflies, and her "mail" which are little plastic letters that came with her play house. She also likes things that rattle and she shakes them. Tonight she was sitting on my lap and she pointed to the floor and said "book" so I put her down and she crawled to the nearest book and started flipping through it. She says "baby" when she's playing with her dolls or playing with her book full of baby faces. She kisses every page, too :)
- If I say "do you want to eat?" or "do you want bites?" she'll point to or crawl to her high chair.
- If anyone says "yay" or she hears other people clapping, she'll clap as well.
- She likes to try to sing. She just says "laaaaaa" and if I sing along with her she gets louder.
- She has started getting mouthy already in her young age...If I tell her "no" she'll turn around and shake her finger at me and yell. We're gonna have to put a stop to that, but for now it's cute :) I try to get her doing it on video, but then she just smiles and hams it up for the camera.
- I don't know how soon she'll be walking. I don't expect her to walk before her birthday, but she is cruising around things pretty quickly these days. She let go and stood by herself today for the first time. She's also been trying to climb on things! Uh oh!
I have some really cute videos of her doing some of her "tricks" but I'm going to post those another time. I've been having issues with trying to upload videos, plus the frustration with the computer, so I'll save that for another day!
